Shelbie + Justin – Downtown Detroit

Shelbie and Justin met at Lake Orion High School in freshman English class and were friends throughout all of High School and even went to junior prom together. They spent a lot of time together in the summer leading up to college and met one another’s extended families. Although they enjoyed this time together, they didn’t realize how important they really were to one another until they went from living 9 minutes away to living 9 hours apart.

It only took Justin a few months into being away from home (and from Shelbie) to realize he didn’t want to be away from her. They started dating over Thanksgiving break in Fall of 2012, about 3 months after Justin had moved up to Michigan Tech (~500 miles away) for school. Despite most of his new friends at Michigan Tech saying he was crazy for “throwing away” his college experience, Justin enjoyed it that much more and had an easier time moving into “adult” life because of her. Shelbie provided the support he needed to get through school and the much-needed breaks from college life that helped him succeed.

Long distance has been challenging, but it allowed Shelbie and Justin to cherish their time together. They have been through a lot of changes in the last four and a half years including college graduation, starting new jobs and moving to a new state, and they cannot wait to embark on the next chapter of their lives together!
